With a distance of 34 kms (21 m) in length and up to 23 kms (14 m) in width, covering an area of 432 square kms. It is situated in the western area of the North Atlantic and 100 kms (62 m) east of the Windward Islands and the Caribbean sea. The origin of the name Barbados is either Portuguese or Spanish meaning “the bearded ones”. The Island boast sunshine all year round so there is no bad time to visit. Spoilt for choice with beaches, there are also many other interesting sights to see including the world heritage UNESCO site in the capital, Bridgetown.
